I'm dumbfounded!! I never realized that you could even accomplish this in Illustrator! Simply astonishing!

Thanks!

That's most of the fun for me. I choose images I don't think I can do and spend time trying to figure out how to approach it.

That's why the uploaded file is so big... Some of the details get lost as well when I convert it to Jpeg as well.

really a piece of art... I really like how real it is.. um a 2D animator who is suffering from how flat a vector drawing can be, but you proved to me that vectors have a really incredible potential.. I'll appreciate if you helped me learn drawing vectors with such depth
thanks in advance

I'm not sure I'm doing anything different, technique wise, than anyone else using the Gmesh... One approach I do take is to break down the subject in Photoshop first, by drawing construction lines with the wacom tablet (similar to how you would when doing any other drawing); really loosely. This enables me to know how and where I want to place the meshes before I even start.

Thanks! It's an interesting challenge trying to make illustrator art not look like illustrator art. I guess that's half the fun.

You're too kind :), but that is truly one outstanding piece of vectoring. Those lips just draw you into the picture and leave you wanting more!

Amazingly realistic. Love the soft focus interpretation of the hair. Draws you in to the face even more!

Thanks. I used a different approach on the hair this time around and was happy with the result. A lot more pieces with varying opacities.

I use the Gradient Mesh tool for the skin and base colors, then brushes for the hair/eyelashes.

Check out the wireframe to get a better idea of what it looks like without the color
